Anyone remember the game LIFE?
ScribbleMonster on Kid Tune Tuesday...Remember, you graduated, got a job, gained a spouse, had some plastic kids, and drove around in a rectangle?  This was by far my favorite game growing up.  I don’t know if it was the fake money, or the idea of a fantasy grown-up life that I hadn’t achieved yet, but I would play it at the drop of the hat.

Well, ScribbleMonster has created an adorable little song about this very game called .  Except that at first you don’t know if they’re singing about the game, or actual life.   I feel fairly certain this was used in a commercial somewhere, but I couldn’t find it.

World Party Music on Kid Tune Tuesday…

ktt2 World Party Music on Kid Tune Tuesday...

I scoured the grand internet trying to find out more information on this week’s selection, only to come up with a whole lotta nuthin’.  There’s this song they play on Kids Place Live called I believe it was recorded by Nico & Morlunah for an album called “World Party Music!” but I don’t know much about these guys or the song, other than that it requires a lot of exclamation points!  The only thing I really know about it is that much of the song is in a language I can’t replicate.  But it’s an upbeat tune.  The gist of the song?  Very simple.  Have fun.  Come dance with me.  In several languages.  Hey!
It’s rather fun watching small children sing songs with mixed languages.  Because they simply either have no idea or do not care.  They will mumble along confidently as if they know exactly what they are singing.  And “HEY!” apparently means the same in several languages.  So, there’s that part of the song to fall back on.  Mr. B and Miss P sing along like this: “????wweeee???ss???  Sha-la-la-la-la HEY!….????….eesh…????….Sha-la-la-la HEY!
Still, it gets them moving.  And if we’re at home and this song comes on, it is immediately time to jump on the beds.  Perhaps there is some hidden message in all of those Eastern European verses that prompts them to do so…

And now for the results:

We’re back!  After a brief hiatus (due to technical difficulties, a.k.a. The Hard Drive Crash of 2011) Kid Tune Tuesday has returned.  This week, we’ve mellowed things a tad.

Kira Willey is a musician after my own heart.  She’s not just a singer.  She started making music for her own Yoga for Kids classes!  You might remember her little diddy, Colors, which was featured in a Dell commercial a few years ago.  It’s a beautifully simple song, and I love the imagery…

I am orange todayLoud and messy like finger paint on the wall.

Robbie Schaefer on Kid Tune Tuesday…

If you own SiriusXM radio and you have kids, then you probably know who Robbie Schaefer is.  For those of you who have none or one of the above and don’t know this guy, Robbie is the late afternoon/evening DJ on Kids Place Live, the kids music channel on satelite radio.  He is by far our kids’ favorite.  Mr. B has called or Facebooked in to Robbie more times in the past year than I’ve ever called in to a radio my entire life.  And each time he does, Robbie graciously returns his requests.  I emailed Robbie for Mr. B’s birthtday, and he was generous enough to give Mr. B a lengthy shout-out and played his favorite song.  How can you not love a DJ like that?  Robbie always seems like a kind, compassionate, even-keel kind of guy, and it’s almost as if you can hear him smiling across the airwaves.  Not in a creepy or annoying I LIKE KIDS! sort of way.  But in a smooth Mr. Rogers kind of fashion.

Robbie Schaefer released a kids album in 2006  titled Songs for Kids Like Us and it contains some adorable and charming gems.  While “Chicken Lips” was a big hit in our household for a while, the latest fave is “Sally, Can I Walk You Home?”  A song about best friends wanting to help each other out and spend more time together.

Sally, can I walk you home?
It’s only three more blocks.
Three blocks down and back again.
We’ll count ‘em while we walk…
Three more blocks, three more blocks, three and three make six.
Three more blocks, three more blocks, we’ll count ‘em just for kicks.

Three more blocks, three more blocks, we’ll count ‘em just for kicks.

Barenaked Ladies on Kid Tune Tuesday…

I love it when Adult musicians make songs for kids.  It makes my heart all mushy to think of grown men sitting down and writing children’s music after they’ve toured the country singing songs about heartache and women, and probably partied enough to put down a horse.

The Barenaked Ladies are no exception.  While I wouldn’t call them a hard core rock band, anyone remember One Week?  They are quite the quirky little band, and seem unafraid to spew a little humor at their own expense.

Not to mention, they’re pretty witty.  Blatantly obvious on their take of the Alphabet song, which appears in their 2008 childrens music album, “Snacktime.”

In this song, Ed Robertson offers a unique slant on the ABC’s by singing that A is for Aisle, C is for Czar and P is for Pterodactyl.  It’s a hoot!  Ah, those kooky Canadians…
